Do you like watching history and political struggles in the palace? Then this drama is for you. The King’s Affection is an ongoing South Korean television series that tells us the tale about Prince Lee Hwi (Park Eun Bin) from the period of the Joseon Dynasty.
The story begins with the Crown Princess giving birth to twins, a girl and a boy. But the highly patriarchal and misogynist King was against the twin girl’s birth and ordered his son the Prince to kill his daughter. But the princess saves her child and sends her out of the palace.
Unknowingly, Princess Dami returns to the palace as a maid and gets tangled with her twin brother, who finds it amusing to see how the girl looks exactly like him. Little Prince Lee Hwi, the intelligent and kind, begins to often swap with her to get out of the palace when trouble occurs. At the same time, Dami grows close with Jung JiWoon (SF9s Rowoon), the son of the royal guard, trying to kill her. Circumstances lead to the death of the Prince. Having no choice and being afraid of dying, Dami begins to live as the Crown Prince. She bids farewell to Jung JiWoon forever with tears and lives fulfilling her duties as the Crown Prince.
Years later, Nobleman JungJiWoon returns to the palace as the royal tutor to the Crown Prince. The story unravels funnily from then. Feeling confused, and in the end, JiWoon finds himself attracted towards a man, the Crown Prince having no clue it’s his first love, Dami, telling himself that it is ok to fall for a man. But the power struggle begins, which puts the Prince’s secret in danger.
But, the excitement of watching a girl deceive people for god and taking the classes about becoming a king when she knew well she could get busted any time in her life, especially during her marriage proposals. All of these add up to the curiosity and make the audiences hook to the drama to know the answers to questions like What will happen to Dami? Will she become the first woman to take the throne as the King, or will she leave the palace and live with JiWoon far away?
The drama The King’s Affection has 20 episodes, showing us what life has been like when monarchy existed. This drama also gives us a clear idea of society, how women were treated in the old days, the frustrating class system, caste system and the life of workers in the palace. What makes the drama even more attractive is the casting which fans say is a visual treat. The line of famous actors like Park Eun Bin, Rowoon, Nam Yoon Su, and Choi Byung Chan contribute well with their hard work. Hence it becomes another must watch on the list of a Kdrama fan.
